T had a busy night on the eve of his birthday. He had a BBQ event at night and stayed awake for the Netherlands VS Argentina match. All in all, he had only about an hour’s sleep before waking up the next day for work.
As we were driving to dinner, he told me he had three cups of coffee. I found it surprising as he was never a coffee drinker and he never believed that coffee would keep him awake. I’d like to think this little trait of mine is residing within him, and it’s because of me 🙂
Despite the long work day and lack of sleep, we went to The Market Grill for dinner. We parked along Telok Ayer Street right in front of Thian Hock Keng temple. It was a beautiful night and as I strolled along the streets I imagined the streets to be filled with busy office workers in the day. It was beautiful to see lights from the temple and some peace and quietness in the area – quite contrasting, I thought.
There were some tourist strolling along the almost dead street, taking photos and I too joined in.
The Market Grill definitely reminded me of Burgers & Lobsters in London. Birthday boy wanted the counter seats, which was what we did in London. What’s different is perhaps they had a menu which B&L (only three items on the list, if i recalled correctly) did not.
And that was how we rounded up the 10 July 2014. We took a nice stroll back to the car and I thought to myself how orange the sky was. The moment we stepped into the car, the rain came tumbling down. Perfect timing.
